Hayden Knibbs is a Senior Clinical Psychologist registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board, the Psychology Board of Australia, the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK, the Health Professions Council of South Africa, and is also a member of the New Zealand Psychologists Society.

Hayden has been practising for over a decade and is experienced in treating a wide range of psychological difficulties. These include challenges such as relationship difficulties, hurtful breakups, problems at work or with studies, and difficulties with friends or colleagues. He also works with emotional concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, pain, concussion, sadness, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, as well as more complex presentations such as bipolar disorder, trauma, sexual trauma, addiction, ADHD and schizophrenia.
Hayden has worked with a wide variety of clients and presentations, in numerous contexts, and is well-versed in assisting adults and children with the challenges that they are facing. Hayden has experience in the private practice context as well as psychiatric hospitals. He has also provided therapy in line with injury rehabilitation across a variety of settings including ACC and has practised in a prominent private practice in Auckland.
He has also worked in the military and in the police settings and has testified as an expert witness in multiple criminal cases.
Hayden utilises evidence-based treatment modalities and follows an integrative approach to treatment, involving a clinical analysis of each individual’s situation, focusing on understanding the specific details of each person’s journey and experience, in order to identify the most effective evidence-based treatment for each client. Hayden believes that psychological treatment is highly personal and as such uses a person-centred stance when engaging in therapy.
Hayden has been trained, and utilises an array of therapeutic inputs where indicated including: Couples therapy, Systematic desensitization, Assertiveness training, Person-centred Therapy, Group therapy, Behavioural Therapy, Relaxation training (Jacobson’s), Teddy bear therapy (children), Play therapy (children), Strategic therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Guided affective imagery, Traumatic incident reduction therapy, Trauma debriefing, Communications training, Psychodrama, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sex therapy.
