ADHD Parenting Course – Auckland

Parenting a child with ADHD can be rewarding, intense, confusing, and exhausting all at once. Our ADHD Parenting Course in Auckland is designed to give you practical tools, clear information, and a supportive space to make sense of your child’s behaviour and your own experience.

Course overview

This small-group course runs over four weeks and is specifically for parents and caregivers of children with ADHD (diagnosed or suspected). Across the four one-hour sessions, you will learn about ADHD in the brain, understand common challenges, and develop concrete strategies you can use at home.

  • Format: Four weekly 1-hour group sessions

  • Location: Serenity Psychology, Grey Lynn, Auckland

  • Cost: $500 per person for the full four-week course

  • Who it’s for: Parents and caregivers of children with ADHD (or where ADHD is strongly suspected)

If both parents would like to attend, each enrols separately at the course rate.

What you will learn

Each session focuses on a different aspect of understanding and responding to ADHD, with space for questions and real-life application.

Session 1: Understanding ADHD in the brain

  • What ADHD really is (and what it is not).

  • How ADHD affects your child’s cognition, attention, and day-to-day functioning.

  • How medication can help, and what kinds of challenges your child – and you as a parent – may be facing.

Session 2: Behaviour and parenting responses

  • Common behavioural challenges seen in children with ADHD at home and at school.

  • Why certain situations tend to trigger difficulties.

  • Parenting styles, practical guidelines, and day-to-day strategies to respond more effectively.

Session 3: Your real-life challenges

  • Space for participants to share specific situations and challenges they have experienced with their child.

  • Discussion of tailored techniques and strategies that you can take home and try in your real context.

  • Support in problem-solving patterns that keep repeating.

Session 4: Consolidation and next steps

  • General tips for supporting children with ADHD over time.

  • Pulling the course content together into a workable plan for your family.

  • Time for final questions and signposting to further support if needed.

What you can expect from the group

By the end of the course, many parents describe feeling more informed, less alone, and more confident in how they respond to their child. The group format allows you to learn alongside other parents who “get it”, while still receiving structured, clinically informed input.

You can expect:

  • A clear, accessible explanation of ADHD and how it affects your child.

  • Practical parenting tools you can start using straight away.

  • A supportive, non-judgemental environment where questions are welcome.

Fees and enrolment

  • Course fee: $500 per person for the full four-session course.

  • Payment is required to secure your place, as numbers are limited to keep the group small and interactive.
